Due to the high speeds involved, Downhill is by far the most risky discipline. Downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition, and judgement", according to the FIS International Ski Competition Rules.

Downhill World Champion Franjo Von Allmen won the sixth race of the Alpine Ski World Cup Downhill season in Crans Montana. Today, the 24-year-old talent secured his second Downhill win of the winter season, bringing his total Alpine Ski World Cup victories to five. Dominik Paris finished in second place, 0.65 seconds behind the Swiss skier, while US skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle placed third, 0.70 seconds behind.

The Alpine Ski World Cup returns to Crans Montana next Sunday with a Downhill. The event will take place on a demanding Nationale course starting from Bella Lui, just like the legendary Downhill at the 1987 Alpine World Ski Championships.
