Switzerland secures a podium clean sweep at the Downhill Alpine Ski World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with Marco Odermatt claiming the top spot, Alexis Monney finishing second (+0.04), and Stefan Rogentin coming in third (+0.98) in the battle for victory.
This is Odermatt's 54th World Cup victory. This puts the 28-year-old on par with Hermann Maier on the all-time list. Only Marcel Hirscher (67) and Ingemar Stenmark (86) have won more races than the Swiss skier.
The Kandahar event marks the Swiss Team's first Downhill triple podium this season and the 18th Swiss men's triple victory overall. This winter, another triple Swiss podium was achieved in December at the Giant Slalom in Val d'Isère. Last winter, three Swiss skiers stood atop the podium in two Downhill events at Crans-Montana and Kvitfjell.
The Swiss Downhillers stood out as an unmatched team in their own league with five racers in the Top 10. Marco Odermatt's win today was the 21st time in succession that at least one Swiss skier has featured on a World Cup Downhill podium, the nation’s longest ever streak. However, Switzerland still has a long way to go to match the record of 33 consecutive Downhill podium finishes achieved by Austrian skiers during the 2002-2003 and 2005-2006 winter seasons.
Vincent Kriechmayr finished in fourth place, tying with Giovanni Franzoni. As a result, the Austrian Men's speed team has gone 23 Downhill races without a victory. This marks a historic low for the team, which has never faced such a long drought in the Downhill discipline.
Two-time defending Downhill Crystal Globe winner Marco Odermatt is leading the 2025-2026 World Cup discipline standings after seven events with 610 points. Franjo von Allmen is second with 435 points. Dominik Paris is third with 325 points.
