Canadian Valerie Grenier won the last Alpine Ski World Cup Giant Slalom of the 2025-2026 winter season in Hafjell. She finished 0.43 seconds ahead of Mina Fuerst Holtmann. Giant Slalom Crystal Globe winner Julia Scheib took third place, 0.57 seconds behind Grenier.
Scheib finished on the podium for the eighth time in the tenth Giant Slalom race of the season, winning five of them. The 27-year-old Austrian skier had already secured the Giant Slalom World Cup title in Ã…re. With a total of 720 points, she also set a new Austrian women's Giant Slalom points record.
Mikaela Shiffrin secured her sixth overall Crystal Globe with an eleventh-place finish in today's race. She finished only 87 points ahead of Emma Aicher. The 31-year-old US skier has now equaled Austrian Annemarie Moser-Pröll's record of six overall World Cup Crystal Globes. It is Shiffrin's 18th Crystal Globe. Only Lindsey Vonn and Marcel Hirscher have won more, with 20 each.
Of her total 1,410 points, Shiffrin earned 980 points in Slalom with nine wins and one second-place finish. Only one podium finish came from a different discipline. In Spindleruv Mlyn, Shiffrin finished third in the Giant Slalom.
"This is the reward for everyone around me: my team, my family, my physiotherapists. I couldn’t do this without them. The day was very emotional, a rollercoaster ride, and the day was incredible. In the morning, I was quite nervous but confident that I had enough energy. After the first run, I thought, oh my God, that’s not enough. In any case, I felt the pressure. I have to say to Emma that her skiing has been just outstanding," Shiffrin said.
The 22-year-old ski rising star Emma Aicher finished her breathtaking season second in the Overall standings, second in Downhill, third in Super-G, sixth in Slalom, and eighteenth in Giant Slalom, her weakest discipline. She also won two silver medals in the Olympic Winter Games in the Downhill and the Team Combined.
"Miracles would have had to happen today. But I’m very, very happy with this season. I’m happy with today too, despite my mistake in the second run, but the Giant Slalom is also going in the right direction. I think I can take a break with a good feeling," said Aicher.
