Sofia Goggia won the Kvitfjell Super-G today, her tenth Super-G Alpine Ski World Cup victory, and her third this season. The 33-year-old Italian skier finished 0.32 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Corinne Suter. Germany's Kira Weidle-Winkelmann came in third, 0.60 seconds behind.
Having finished in the Top three in the Super-G standings only once last season, this season was his most outstanding yet, achieving three wins, two more podium finishes, and Top ten positions in all eight races.
"It was a bit of a crazy season for me. I was already really fast here last season, so I knew I was competitive. When you're under pressure, you obviously have to be able to handle it. I'm happy with how things turned out,” Goggia said.
"If you want to be a complete speed skier, you have to get both the Globes in Downhill and Super-G, and today I finally did it, and I can say I'm a little bit more complete," four-time Downhill globe winner Goggia added.
In the battle for the Crystal Globe World Cup title, Germany's Emma Aicher, who is currently second in the standings, reduced Mikaela Shiffrin's lead by 50 points with her fourth-place finish in the Super-G. The US skier, who finished 22nd, did not score any World Cup points and remains at 1286 points with two races left in the season. Aicher, with 1241 points, is now only 45 points behind the American superstar.
"I try not to think about the Globe. I'm going to focus on my skiing, and we'll see what happens," Aicher said.
