On Saturday, October 25, all eyes will turn to the majestic Rettenbach Glacier in Soelden for the opening event of the Alpine Ski World Cup

Downhill is considered the premier discipline and is the longest and, after the slalom, second-oldest alpine skiing competition. Since its inception in 1967, Downhill has been an integral part of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup.

The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup was launched in 1966. One year later the inaugural World Cup race was held On January 5, in Berchtesgaden (GER)

Since its inception in 1967, Giant Slalom has been an integral part of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. At the end of October, the 2025-2026 winter season kicks off with the traditional Women's and Men's Giant Slalom races on the Rettenbach Glacier in Soelden.

On Friday, March 15, in Hafjell, Marco Odermatt (Switzerland) secured the Overall and Giant Slalom Crystal Globes.
