The Swiss team celebrated a remarkable 1-2-3 victory in the Alpine Ski World Cup Giant Slalom at La Face de Bellevarde in Val d'Isere. Loïc Meillard finished first, finishing 0.18 seconds ahead of Luca Aerni, who placed second, and 0.33 seconds ahead of Marco Odermatt, who took third.
After only managing one Top-10 finish in his first seven races this season—a ninth-place finish in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek—Meillard achieved his eighth World Cup victory overall and his fifth in the Giant Slalom.
"It's amazing. It shows the work we've been putting in the last two weeks with the team. We've worked on a few small things in the end, nothing big, but just finding the right movement again, the flow, and today it worked," Meillard said.
Luca Aerni moved up 11 places from 13th position in the first run to claim his first podium finish in the Giant Slalom. His last podium finish was in the slalom event nearly eight years ago in Madonna di Campiglio.
Marco Odermatt now leads the Giant Slalom Alpine Ski World Cup standings by 15 points over Stefan Brennsteiner after four races.
