Cornelia Huetter won the first of two Downhill Alpine Ski World Cup races in Kvitfjell on Friday. Hütter finished 0.15 seconds ahead of the unexpected German runner-up, Emma Aicher, while world champion Breezy Johnson (+0.44) finished in third place. It's Hütter's fourth Downhill and ninth World Cup victory.

"It was a run at the limit. A smooth line makes me feel fast on skis, and I missed that the last month. It is nice to have that feeling back. It is not always easy, but today it was a lot of fun and it was a nice day on the Downhill track," Hütter said.

21-year-old all-rounder Emma Aicher celebrated her first Alpine Ski World Cup podium finish today.

"The course is nice, it has a little bit of everything. I had a really good feeling on training and wanted to implement that in the race. I didn't think it would be so good," Aicher said.

Breezy Johnson claimed her eighth podium finish in the Alpine Ski World Cup today. The 29-year-old Downhill World Champion is still seeking her first World Cup victory.

"I made some mistakes, so I’m kind of surprised by the result. The slope is good, it locked up quite a bit last night, so it’s definitely faster, but it’s a really fun slope," Johnson said.

Cornelia Hütter, who claimed victory in the season's first Downhill event at Beaver Creek and achieved all three wins for the Austrian women's team this season, holds third place in the Alpine Ski World Cup Downhill standings.

Federica Brignone, who did not make it to the podium today and finished fifth, 0.51 seconds behind Hütter, still leads the Downhill standings. Sofia Goggia, finishing fourth (+0.44), is 24 points behind Brignone. Hütter holds third place, 26 points behind.
