Giant Slalom Olympic Champion Lucas Pinheiro Braathen claimed victory in the Giant Slalom World Cup in Kranjska Gora. The Norwegian-born skier, now representing Brazil, secured victory thanks to his flawless first run. The 25-year-old exploited his leading position in the second run to beat Loic Meillard by 0.54 seconds. Stefan Brennsteiner finished in third place, 0.80 seconds behind. Pinheiro Braathen kept his composure in the second run to claim Brazil's first-ever Alpine Ski World Cup victory in Giant Slalom. In November, he won the Slalom season opener in Levi, securing Brazil's first-ever Alpine Ski World Cup victory.

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen has finished inside the Top 10 of every Giant Slalom (One win, three times 2nd, 5th, 7th, 10th, and a DNF in the season opener in Sölden) race he has managed to finish during the 2025-2026 winter season. He is the only skier to claim four Top-3 Giant Slalom finishes in a row during the current season (Alta Badia, Adelboden, Schladming, and Kranjska Gora).

Marco Odermatt, who finished today in fifth place, leads the Giant Slalom World Cup standings with 495 points after eight races, with only one race remaining at the Finals in Lillehammer, Norway. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen is in second place with 447 points. Loic Meillard is third on 406 points.

Pinheiro Braathen is also currently second in the Overall World Cup standings behind Marco Odermatt.
