Julia Scheib has achieved her third victory and fourth podium finish in the Giant Slalom for the 2025-2026 winter season. After the first five races, Scheib boasts three wins and one second-place finish. With today's triumph, she has reclaimed the top position in the discipline standings, especially since Alice Robinson did not finish the first run. This win also marks Scheib's first consecutive victories in the Alpine Ski World Cup.
The Austrian leads the Giant Slalom standings with 380 points, 88 points ahead of Alice Robinson. Camille Rast is in third place with 241 points.
Camille Rast finished in second place, just 0.14 seconds behind Scheib, while Sara Hector, the fastest skier in the first run, completed the podium, finishing 0.40 seconds off the pace.
It's the first Giant Slalom victory for an Austrian skier in Semmering since Anna Veith won 13 years ago.
"I didn’t think it would be enough. It was so bumpy, I was at my limit. I knew I had to let my skis do the work at the bottom. It was a real fight from the top all the way to the last section. But it was enough. I’ll stay focused and have to give it my all in every race, but it’s a lot of fun right now," Scheib said.
Camille Rast secured Switzerland's 500th World Cup Giant Slalom podium in women's and men's Alpine skiing.
"I’m incredibly happy. It was a real battle, but I gave it my all. It's nice to finish the year in Giant Slalom on the podium. I was really close in Tremblant, and I tried to give my best today, and it worked," Rast said.
Sara Hector was happy with her third-place finish, marking her second podium of the season and the 25th podium finish in her World Cup career.
"I tried to concentrate on myself, but it wasn't easy after hearing that Julia had skied well, especially in the lower section. I was always a bit too high. But I'm happy with the podium, that's cool," said Hector.
Mikaela Shiffrin, sixth, has not made the podium in her last ten World Cup Giant Slalom races, which is her longest streak without a Giant Slalom podium since her first 15 Giant Slalom races from 2010-2011 to 2013-2014.
