The first Men's race of 2026, and the 5th Alpine Ski World Cup Slalom of the 2025-2026 winter season, produced its fifth different winner. Clement Noël secured his first Alpine Ski World Cup victory of the season on the challenging "Canalone Miramonti" slope in Madonna di Campiglio. Eduard Hallberg took second place, finishing just 0.12 seconds behind the Frenchman. Noël's teammate Paco Rassat came in third, 0.37 seconds behind.
Olympic Champion Clement Noel is the most successful French World Cup Slalom skier, with 32 podium finishes to his name, including 15 wins.
"It's always special here in Madonna. Last year, I made it onto the podium, but didn't win. So, of course, I’m happy. It was a tough race, and it was really close. After the first run, anything could happen. I wasn't happy with my first run. I knew I would need to give my all in the second run. Thanks to the Austrian course setter!," Noel said.
"It’s a huge joy to share this podium with Paco. He is in great shape, as is the whole team," he added.
Eduard Hallberg claimed his second World Cup podium after finishing in third place in Levi. The Finn, who narrowly missed out on his first victory, felt happy after his best World Cup result in just his 16th Alpine Ski World Cup Slalom.
"I’m happy, not disappointed. I skied well; small mistakes cost me the win. But I’ll learn from it and keep trying. To reach the podium and my career best result, it’s amazing." Hallberg said.
Paco Rassat is having the best season of his career so far, having risen to 3rd in the rankings. He has finished inside the Top six of every Slalom World Cup race he has finished, including one win in Gurgl. The French skier set the quickest time in the second run to climb 13 places up the leaderboard.
"It’s really, really cool. The goal in the second run was really to push a full attack. I had some luck with the timings, but at the end, I am really happy, and to share it with Clément is amazing," Rassat said.
After five races, Timon Haugan, sixth today, continues leading the World Cup Slalom standings with 285 points. Clement Noel (282) and Paco Rassat (240) are second and third, respectively.
