Mikaela Shiffrin secured the gold medal in the Women's Slalom event at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. In the last race of the Games, Shiffrin finished 1.50 seconds ahead of Camille Rast and 1.71 seconds ahead of Anna Swenn Larsson. Shiffrin’s victory by 1.50 seconds is the largest margin in women’s Olympic slalom since 1988, when Vreni Schneider triumphed by 1.68 seconds.
It’s Shiffrin’s third Olympic victory, having won seven of eight slalom races this winter season. In 2014, Shiffrin won gold in slalom at Sochi, and in 2018, the 30-year-old US skier took home gold in Giant Slalom and silver in the Alpine Combined.
Shiffrin is the second skier, after the Swiss legend Vreni Schneider, to win two Olympic slalom titles. After today's gold, she now joins Julia Mancuso as the most decorated US women in Olympic Alpine Skiing history.
"I came here for the skiing. I wanted to feel these two runs that I felt today. That it was on the limit, that it wasn’t easy, but I took the risk even when it felt like there was something to lose. But in the end, there was everything to earn," Shiffrin said.
