Beaver Creek Alpine Ski World Cup Super-G Races Preview

In the last eight men's World Cup Super-G events, Austrian (9), Norwegian (6) and Swiss (6) skiers claimed 21 of the 24 podium finishes. USA's Travis Ganong (third in the second SG held in Beaver Creek last season), Canada's James Crawford (second in Kvitfjell in March 2022) and Broderick Thompson (third in the first SG held in Beaver Creek last season) are the exceptions.
Hannes Reichelt is the most awarded skier in the Super-G in Beaver Creek. He won there in 2005, 2007, and 2014. He also finished in third place in 2012, 2013, and 2017.
US team skiers have yet to claim a Super-G victory on the World Cup United States venues. All previous 30 men's World Cup Super-G races held in United States have been won by European skiers.
On December 2, 2021, Marco Odermatt won the first Super-G of the season in Beaver Creek. In a very demanding and super fast racecourse (up to 14 racers did not finish today), the Swiss star finished 0.78 seconds ahead of Matthias Mayer and 0.95 seconds ahead of Canadian Broderick Thompson.
After finishing the day before in third place in the Downhill Marco Odermatt won the first Super-G of the season in Lake Louise. Odermatt was in a different league. He laid a perfect run to took his 13th World Cup victory.
The 25-year-old Swiss star finished 0.37 seconds ahead of Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and 0.78 seconds ahead of Matthias Mayer. It was his eighth podium in his last eight World Cup races.
Odermatt has won five super-G World Cup events in his career, third-most among Swiss men, behind Pirmin Zurbriggen (10) and Didier Cuche (6).
Marco Odermatt kicked off his 2022-2023 winter season in the best possible way, taking the Men’s Giant Slalom in Sölden, finishing 3rd in the Downhill in Lake Louise, and showing today that he will be the man to beat again this year for the Overall standings.
This century, only Stephan Eberharter (2001-2002) and Kjetil Jansrud (2016-2017, first 3) won the first two men's Super-G events in a World Cup season.
In his last three participations on the Super-G in Beaver Creek, Odermatt won two times (2019 and 2021), and finished second once in the second Super-G held in the US ski resort last year.
In 2021 Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won in the Birds of Prey racecourse the second Super-G held in Beaver Creek. It was Kilde's return to the top of the podium after missing most of the 2020-2021 World Cup season after suffering a knee injury in training in January 2021. After his comeback, it only took him three races to impressively find his way back to the winning path.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has won seven World Cup Super-G events, jointmost alongside Vincent Kriechmayr among active male skiers.
The Norwegian has won four of the last seven men's World Cup Super-G events. In the other three events, he recorded two second places and one fourth place.
Kilde's finished in third (2018), second (2019) and first place (2021) in three of the last four World Cup Super-G races held in Beaver Creek.
Matthias Mayer has won three World Cup races in the Super-G.
Mayer recorded 10 Super-G podium finishes in the World Cup since his last win on 1 December 2019 in Lake Louise, including a third place in Canada last week.
The Olympic Champion finished in third (2019), second (2021) and fourth place (2021) in the last three World Cup Super-G races held in Beaver Creek.
Vincent Kriechmayr has won seven World Cup Super-G events, secondmost among Austrian men, behind Hermann Maier (24). Kriechmayr won the Super-G World Cup event in Beaver Creek on 1 December 2017, his only super-G podium finish at this venue.
